Why Door Decals Differ from Body Branding

Body graphics are a marketing job. You pick the colours, place the logo large, and the goal is for people to notice your lorry from a distance.

The door is a different problem. The information block on a driver's door is usually not about looking good — it is about being read by someone standing right beside the vehicle. An officer. A customer confirming the right lorry turned up. Someone who wants to call you after clipping a bumper in a loading bay.

That is why most owners make two separate decisions: the body follows the brand, the door follows a list. Both can be printed and fitted in the same visit — but you bring two different kinds of input to the shop.

Who Sets the Size, Font and Wording

We need to be plain here, and it matters to you. LoriCantik is a design, printing and installation shop. We are not a road transport authority.

What a commercial vehicle must display — which details, how large, and where — is set by bodies such as the Road Transport Department (JPJ) and checked during inspection at PUSPAKOM. Those requirements can differ by vehicle class, permit type and how the lorry is used, and they can be updated over time.

We will not hand you a measurement and a font name and call it mandatory. Anyone who does that without looking at the requirements for your vehicle is speaking on behalf of an agency they do not represent.

The Safest Route before Printing

• Check with a JPJ office or their official sources for your vehicle class.
• Ask the PUSPAKOM branch you normally use — they see vehicles like yours every day.
• If your lorry runs under a permit or a company contract, check that permit's conditions too.
• Write the confirmed list down and send it to us. We print and fit to the sizes and layout you supply.

We cannot promise the outcome of any inspection, and we will not pretend otherwise. What we can promise is that your artwork is printed exactly to the size you asked for, on material that will not fade in two seasons.

What Usually Goes on a Lorry Door

Based on the artwork customers send us, a door block commonly carries some of the following:

• Full company name as registered
• Company registration number
• Business address
• A contact phone number
• Weight or load details for the vehicle
• A permit or licence number, where relevant

That is an observation from the work we do — not an official list. The list for your lorry comes from the sources above. If you are unsure of even one line, confirm it before we start designing. Fixing a line of text at artwork stage is free; fixing it after the vinyl is printed and fitted is not.

A Layout People Can Actually Read

When every detail is set at the same size in one block, the eye has nowhere to start. The most readable door blocks are layered: company name largest at the top, registration and address smaller beneath it, phone number clear and set apart. You decide the actual sizes; we lay them out so the block sits cleanly in the space the door gives us.

Font and Size — from a Printing Point of View

We cannot tell you which font meets a requirement. But we print lettering onto vehicles every day, and a few things about legibility hold consistently.

Pick Bold, Open Letterforms

A bold sans-serif with generous interior space stays readable at distance and in rain. Tightly condensed faces, joined-up scripts and three-dimensional shadowed letters look good on a monitor and disappear at ten metres.

Contrast Beats Size

White text on a dark blue door reads better than larger grey text on a white door. Before approving a design, look at the proof on your phone from across the room. If you cannot read it there, it will not be easier at the roadside.

Remember the Obstacles

Lorry doors have handles, lock barrels, fold lines and sometimes bolt holes. Text crossing a fold line breaks up as you read it. When you send measurements, tell us where those obstacles are — or simply send a photo of the door itself.

Cut Vinyl Lettering or Printed Vinyl?

For a door information block there are two usual routes.

Cut Vinyl Lettering

Letters are cut from solid-colour vinyl and applied individually. There is no background, so the door's own colour shows through. The edges are as crisp as it gets, and if one line changes later, only that line is lifted.

Printed Vinyl

The whole block is printed as a single panel. This is the choice when you want a full-colour logo, gradients, or the door details sitting on top of the same design that runs along the body.

We print and cut both in-house on 3M or Avery cast vinyl. The material is weatherproof and UV resistant, and vinyl life is five to seven years under normal conditions. Every job carries a 2-year colour and material warranty plus a 7-day installation workmanship guarantee.

Five Mistakes That Cause a Reprint

1. Approving a design without reading every line. One wrong digit in a phone number means the panel is made again.
2. Using the trading name instead of the registered one. What people call your company and what appears on your documents are often not the same.
3. Guessing the sizes. If you have not confirmed the requirements, do not let a printing shop guess on your behalf.
4. Leaving it to inspection week. A rush job means no room for revisions, and a lorry that is not moving is not earning.
5. Applying over old vinyl. New material laid over a cracked old layer lifts when that layer does.

Door decals are rarely ordered on their own. Most owners settle the door block in the same visit as the body branding, because the team is already on site and the vinyl comes off the same roll.

No. We are a printing shop, not an authority. Confirm the requirements with JPJ or PUSPAKOM for your vehicle class, then send us that list — we print exactly to the sizes you give us.
